Using Google Dorking on a man
Google dorking (or Google hacking) is an advanced hacker technique that uses the Google search bar to find information that is not always available through standard search queries.
Some common keywords would be :
- filetype
- inurl
- intext
- intitle
- site
Try typing in the Google search bar ‘intitle:”hacked sports studio”‘ (you will find my web app hacking article on medium).
The purpose of this article is to show you how I easily found sensitive information about my best friend’s Hinge date. I started off with his name and surname. A quick google search resulted in a YouTube video of this man talking about his startup company. After watching the YouTube video, I gained more information about this man, such as his university.
Here is where google dorking comes in. I first used the ‘intext’ keyword with his name and surname, where I then found out about his middle name, his age as well as his family’s company.
I then added the word ‘ucla’ to try and find university articles about this man.
e.g.: intext:’name surname ucla’
Through this, I found a Football database page with his height, weight and university. Scrolling further, I found more information like his hometown and high school.
Keep in mind, at this point I only did three Google searches and I already have a lot of information.
I then found a website called rocketreach.io that gathered a ton of information on this person, such as emails and 6 different phone numbers. This report also held a CV where I gathered work information such as his bachelor’s degree in political science and minor in International Relations.
I then wanted to see if I could find an address associated with his name. I used the same ‘intext’ keyword and added the word ‘address’.
e.g.: intext:’name surname address’
Scrolling through the results, I found a website that contained personal information such as a home address from his hometown.
Let’s summarize what we found
Name, age, height, weight, high school, football position, companies, family members, hometown, bachelor’s degree, university, emails, phone numbers, and what seems like his hometown home address.
This is a lot of information to hold on a person, and you can imagine the ‘damage’ you could do with this information. The purpose behind this creepy investigation was not only to find out if this guy was legit, but also to demonstrate how easily and quickly you can find information on somebody on the Internet. Plus, it’s a funny story for my friend to tell her date.
